The introduction of Digital Cinema will enable movies to be distributed faster, cheaper and more securely. Whilst various mechanisms for distribution are envisaged -e.g. DVD-ROM, cable- the most efficient in the long run is almost certainly satellite transmission. This mechanism will allow one broadcast of a movie to be received simultaneously by many cinemas over a wide geography. However, the transmission of such a large volume of content -each movie is approx. 40GB- necessitates guaranteed security and 100% accurate delivery to every recipient.
